THE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP

Want to get more impact out of your material?

Want to have a commanding presence on stage?

The Performance Workshop can help you.

The Performance Workshop is a series of exercises geared toward improving a performer’s overall stage skills. Various exercises entail the performer executing a routine of functional tasks that one might do during the course of their act, speech, or presentation, such as greet and address the audience, demonstrate a prop (candle & matches, cards, etc.) or bring a guest onstage. It is a simple approach to developing focus and clarity, and consequently, impact and effectiveness, applicable to just about any performance style.

Exercises are performed first as a group to break the ice a bit, and then individually. Music is also utilized to help explore various options, moods and tempo. Performers adapt their pacing and delivery to work with a particular piece of music. Music can help influence the style and timing of the performance.

Spina will review each performance and offer ideas and suggestions on how to improve the presentation. She’ll help the performer to focus their energy and effectively convey their intent to the audience. Communicating clearly is vital to a good performance.

We learn by watching others. As Spina works with each individual, the other performers will observe the application of suggestions and the consequent changes and differences. Analyzing the hows and whys something works, performers can then relate what they learn to their own material. We will work on dialogue, as well.

The Workshop utilizes general theatrical principles that can be applied to each and every act, regardless of whether it’s public speaking, magic, juggling, a variety act, dancing, singing, etc.

EVERYONE can benefit.

Joanie also offers workshops working with small groups of performers on their material. Workshops can be custom designed to meet the needs to the attendees.
