“How To Improve Your Performance & Presentation”
My lecture addresses ways to improve an individual’s stage performance and best present the material. Weeks ahead of the lecture, I request dvd submissions from people who will be attending the lecture.* During the lecture while we watch the dvd, I point out and demonstrate possible ways to improve the performer’s act, including feedback on staging, performance, costuming, lighting, music, dialogue, etc..
I often invite the performer onstage to work with me in front of the audience. Everyone is excited when a performer visibly improves with the application of a few suggestions. To see change within a matter of minutes gives us all inspiration to work on our own material. Since these observations and resulting suggestions are based on general theatrical principles each individual can apply the same theory to his or her own act.. It is much easier for people to grasp these ideas when they can actually see them in action.
*If no one submits a dvd, I show footage of a young man I worked with at Magic Live. He submitted his tape and since he lived in Vegas I worked with him to actually apply the suggestions and changes. At the beginning of the lecture I show his tape and explain ways he could improve. Later, I show his revised version with the changes instituted.
“Attended Joanie Spina’s lecture at the Magic Castle yesterday. Anyone who wishes to improve their performance, and further the art of magic, would benefit greatly from her insight and advice. If you get the chance to learn from her, don’t miss it! She’s amazing! One of magic’s wonders! “
